Challenge Accepted! 6 Weeks of No Sugar + No Dairy

Before we get to my health challenge, I want to wish my amazing Momma & Grandma (and all the other mothers in the world) a wonderful Mother’s Day! I love you!

Happy Mother's Day 2013

The Challenge:

6 weeks with no refined or added sugars

no dairy products

My best friend is getting married 6 weeks from today and I am honored to be the matron of honor. This means I have a pretty dress to fit into. So it’s time to get my eating habits under control! I am starting off by eliminating all refined/added sugars and dairy products (ultimately I plan on becoming completely vegan).

Details:

  • No refined sugars
  • No added sugars
  • No dairy: cheese, milk, sour cream, butter, yogurt, ice creams, gelato, etc…
  • 6 weeks!

Exceptions:

  • Gatorade & gels during long training runs/rides & races (or at least until I get some Nuun)
  • Sabbath lunch at friends’ houses. I will try to follow the challenge but I would not want to be an annoying house guest:)

During the next 6 weeks I am hope to become a smarter shopper, add  new recipes to my regular menu, and learn ways to incorporate this challenge into my everyday diet. So let the challenge begin! I already got to try out a new recipe (if you can even call it that)…

The easiest ice cream, ever!!!

To kick off my No Sugar + No Dairy challenge I tested out a super easy banana ice cream recipe. All you need is 2 frozen bananas (peel before freezing…oops) + a tablespoon of Adam’s peanut butter (or anything else you like to mix with bananas). Throw it all in a food processor or Vitamix (at first I tried a blender but it really did not work). Blend until it is the consitancy you like and enjoy! It really was delicious! I will definitely be making this whenever I need a sweet, natural treat!

Banana Ice CreamYay for technology! Today, two friends from Texas got married!!! I was so excited that I was able to watch it on a live internet feed. Woo hoo! Congratulations, Nolan & Caroline!
